Wireframing a tool for students

Based on business goals, technical requirements and user needs I created a wireframe for the rebuild of MI’s flagship product: a summative testing web application for grades 3-12. The testing interface requires many tools. Some are used per question, some per test and many are configurable by the test administrator. After conducting a review of our current product and a competitive analysis of other’s products I created a wireframe that strives to organize the tools in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the student.

The idea is to separate the tools needed per test from those needed per item. Since multiple items can appear on the right side of each screen I proposed adding item-specific tools to each question, hidden under an action icon that could be expanded or hidden based on student preference.

This represents the starting point for the project. The wireframe would continue on to be versioned and tested with students.
